Casa Santos Lima is the 2nd Most Awarded Winery of the World in 2017
Another spectacular accomplishment on the “World Raking of Wines & Spirits”
Casa Santos Lima has the pleasure to inform that it finished the year as the 2nd Most Awarded Winery of World 2017 according to the “WRW&S” (World Ranking of Wines & Spirits). This prestigious worldwide association bases its rankings, first started in 1996, in the prizes won by each producer out of 80 international wine competitions, organized throughout the year. For this ranking more than 700,000 wines were counted. In addition to this magnificent achievement, some of Casa Santos Lima wines in particular also received great honours. In the Top-5 of the Red Blends (wines made from more than one grape variety), there are no more no less than 3 Casa Santos Lima wines. In the 1st position appears the Alentejano “Valcatrina”, in the 3rd position the wine from the Lisboa Region “Colossal Reserva” and closing the Top-5, the Algarve wine “Al-Ria”. However our white wines also had a chance to shine. In the 1st position of the Top-5 white blends, none other than our Douro wine “Quinta de Porrais”, vinified, produced and sold by Casa Santos Lima in partnership with the “Sociedade Agrícola Quinta de Porrais”. Regarding the general countries’ classification, Portugal finished the year in a great 6th position only behind Australia (5th), Italy (4th), Spain (3rd), United States (2nd) and France (1st) and in front of South Africa (9th), Argentina (8th) and Chile (7th). A tremendous accolade for Portugal and for all its wine producers that show once again that in blind tastings, their wines are at the same level as the very best produced worldwide. This park, located right next to the Lisbon's Airport (Aeroporto Humberto Delgado), also has a high pedagogical interest as it serves to promote wine culture in general and the status of Lisbon as an excellent wine producing Region.
In this vineyard, around 2 hectares of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Arinto grapes were planted on clay and limestone soils. This a unique space of the capital of Portugal where great soil characteristics and sun exposition conditions are combined, allowing its visitors to have a close experience with the vineyards’ life cycle.
